Jewel Tones Spring 2011 by JConde23 featuring draped dresses

Color Blocking is all the rage for the upcoming Spring. It also is keeping my mind off the gross looking snow that has accumulated this winter.

I definitely have a pink skirt at home, but do not have any jewel tone tops to pair with it. I have been looking to these images above. B. Jones Style blog has been a huge inspiration knocking my usual grays, whites, and blacks out of the park for this upcoming season. She pulls together jewel tones and neutrals like nobody's business!

The image I pulled from Glamour's magazine article online showcases a bright blue with an orange skirt combo. Amazingly done for the runway and can easily be interpreted for the real world.

Lastly, I pulled together some chic and bright pieces for my 'Color Block' Polyvore post. I think its best to keep two jewel tones that compliment each other in an outfit and tie it together with a neutral piece: either a blazer, pair of heels, or a sweet clutch.

And for those who are not 100% ready to commit to a full blown color block-fest, I would suggest trying a bright lip or eyeshadow with a bright/jeweled tone top or other accessory.

My how espadrilles have evolved! I remember when I was in grammar school, one of my first pair of "heels" was a wedge espadrille in denim blue! I definitely need an updated pair. Ones like these above would do the trick!

I love stripes. There is a mini section in my closet dedicated to stripes. Striped long sleeves, striped cardigans, striped dresses, etc.

Stripes give a basic t-shirt an updated quality that plain ones lack. Striped tops give a basic skirt or pant a little more "jazz" and can spice up a colored cardigan in a way you normally wouldn't expect.

Thanks to Coco Chanel, the ever classic striped shirt is still a staple in modern day style. It can be worn with any style you have whether its sophistication, edge, modern or avant garde that your look achieves.

This combo with the gray slacks is similar to how I am dressed for work today. I also chose to belt my cardigan with a brown suede skinny belt. After work, I can slip on my dark rinse jeans for a more casual chic look!

Hello House of Harlow! I know this collection has been out for some time, but I can't help but keep falling in love with it every time I see it. Some of these pieces I have not seen. For example, the Garter Bracelet & the Wrap Ring are gorgeous!!! I can totally see these pieces in my jewelry box mixed with boho chic wardrobe pieces for Fall, Winter, and Spring.

The materials are extremely well put together. I especially love the leather inlays on a lot of the pieces. The designs may be inspired by the 1960s, but I believe these timeless pieces of jewelry. The other aspect which is even more appealing is that they are all affordable!

I hope we see much more of House of Harlow and Nicole Richie's designs.

Shoe Fix

Finally! Thanks, again, to the heads up from Ripped Nylon, these lovelies came back in stock on Go Jane. They should arrive on Monday and I am hoping they are everything that I hoped they would be!!! :)

Ok, so these are Houston boots I ordered from Shoe Dazzle before i knew the above Go Jane boots were in stock! Yikes!!! I got these bad boys in last night. I am in love with the sleekness of them and the material; however, I am having some doubts and issues with the inside construction of the boots. Mainly, the bottom shoe pad seems off and is literally appearing to peel off. I may have to email Kim K. about this!!! Shoe Dazzle did have an awesome pair of over the knee suede gray boots but in flats. :( I would swap these out for those, but they are sold out! For $39.00 you can't go wrong with Shoe Dazzle.

Now, I NEVER ever thought I would be swooning over clogs.... I mean, back in the day, they were just not really in style when I was growing up. However, with the wide leg trousers and jeans I have I needed something with a little more chunk! Amazingly, these cuties are super comfy. I almost bought a pair of gray (my go to color this season) suede clogs with a lower heel, but then I remembered, I am 4'11''! Hellooooooooo.....I need the insane heels! I know Rachel Zoe is petite and she never wears anything less that 5 inches in height! These are probably about 4.75 inches! ;)

So leave it up to Ripped Nylon to share with me some amazing deals going on over at Charlotte Russe. They are having a major boot sale.....With that said, I saw these utility chic boots. I remember seeing the Gap plaid shirts and skinny jean holiday ads around Christmas last year and the girls were wearing awesome Burberry ( i think) boots that were similar to these. I also remember how badly I wanted them, but without the heavy price tag. I am thinking I may need a pair of functional chic utility boots to ease my desire. I mean, who doesn't want a pair of this to rock with skinny jeans when the snow starts dusting the streets on New Jersey?!

or....... pair of these?! These I found on Go Jane today while I was pulling the image of the fist pair of this post. Web browsing is seriously putting a whole in my wallet! Its almost as if I can come up with every reason why I need so many different types of boots and shoes to wear with this or that. Unfortunately, my roommate, I mean my boyfriend at home ;) does not agree. My closets are bursting at the seams. Ugh.....I wish I could make my computer room into a walk-in closet. Seriously, how sweet would that be???

Until then, I need to really organize my shoes and put away the summer and bring out the F/W ones. I really don't like to get rid of too many shoes mainly because I keep them all in great condition and you never know when some styles might fade back into style!

Shopbop in their recent email "Make Like a Modern-Day Sweater Girl: 9 Ways to Wear Fall's Hit Knits" showcased new ways to sport classic attire by putting the above dreamy outfit together. This gives me the inspiration to keep that maxi dress out for Fall and ways to incorporate my knit sweaters into the mix. Also, maybe I can find a luxe long sleeve maxi dress for fall. The above colors of cream and light pink work wonderful together; however, probably not the best for my everyday or weekend attire.

A way to incorporate this look and make it a more relaxed outfit can be done with basic closet items as such below:

Everyone has a basic knit sweater. I have a similar one like this American Apprarel sweater, but mine is from AA in a light heather gray with a loose fit and fabric. Pair this over a black knit maxi dress like the one below:

So, I have this white blazer I have yet to wear. I did not wear it all Spring or Summer and was looking for ways to incorporate it into the Fall.

With white, unless you live in a seasonless changing climate, is a little tricky to navigate for the Fall/Winter. You want to make sure the white material that you wear in either a top, pants, or outerwear is in a thicker material and is not delicate or see through. For winter whites, pair your item with darker options. For example, a black turtle neck under a white blazer, or a luxurious sweater over white pants.

The old "rule" used to be not to wear white after Labor Day, but there was never a real rule. And rules especially in fashion are forever changing. So I say as long as its not sheer, delicate, or frilly...go for it and make it work for the Fall/Winter season. Just don't wear white stockings, leggings, etc. its just not flattering unless you are below the age of 6!

I am still searching for the perfect pair of over the knee boots in suede. I just don't know if I want a flat or a heel boot. These are the ideal options in style for me. However, I really have my eye on a pair of Chinese Laundry - Niche over the knee boots I saw on DSW online. They look exactly like the Overrpas above, but come in a Cognac color and are way more affordable. After all, we are in a recession!

I have a September wedding to attend. I do have a closet full of dresses; however, I have already worn them to mutual attendee functions and have worn the latest dress at the bride to be's engagement party.

So, I am on the hunt for a new dress, which honestly, is not that bad! I love shopping for a new dress. I think I am more excited about what I plan to wear to the Church and Wedding than I am about the ceremony. Sorry, that sounds terrible.....but this is a fashion blog, so naturally, dressing and accessorizing is the best part!

Since there is a late afternoon church ceremony and the reception is not until the evening, I get to put together two outfits. I am hoping the weather is still warm since its still September.
The dresses above are from LuLu's and I am drooling over them all. Which do you prefer? I always lean towards black because its just so classic and timeless for weddings. Plus, it will add to my LBD collection. But, I do love the silver sleeved dress with back bows. I am just not sure how light the silver will appear (after all, I do not want it to be an almost white rather than silver; huge don't at a wedding).

Why me?! Of course I have sought out this color on a boot for a long time and sadly it is sold out in my size!!! I have even went as far as GOOGLE searches to just find out the company of this shoe, which is QUPID to only find its sold out everywhere else too!! :(

I had ordered a pair of slouchy knee boots in the same color, but they were too small and too late to return. UGH.....just my luck!

I recently got my friend Leslie hooked on the Sally Hansen Commander in Chic which is very similar to the Chanel 505.

I also then told Leslie about the infamous Chanel 407 (Jade) color that hit the runways last Fall and have since been sold out everywhere. A pricy $25 bottle now only available on EBAY and used for $90+. The $25 price tag doesn't seem so pricey anymore.

Either way, Leslie and I went gaga over the Jade 407 and only found it was sold out because some snobby/rich divorcee at Saks Fifth Avenue in Philly told us the color sold out within days all over. Well, our new found love for pricey nail polish has not sold out or worn thin. In fact, we are sure we will continue to obsess over it.

So, we found Essie and Opi to carry similar Jade shades and I also stumbled upon a Sour Apple color at Mandee's for $3 which I quickly snagged two of them. Hopefully, my Chanel loving Philly friend will love it too and will suffice for our crazed obsession.....for now.

My latest necklace crush! The first is no surprise, but a great necklace from the House of Harlow (Nicole Richie). I love its vibe and leather texture that's incorporated. And for $65? Completely affordable, but a luxurious sense of style!

The Carolee LUX necklace is definitely a hybrid of rocker chic and ultra femininity combined! I love it. Now, only if I had some serious jewelry crafting skills, I think this could be a possible DIY with different size chains and a brooch. This necklace sells for $195; not entirely expensive, but definitely a pull on the bank account (hey, this recession is hurting us all).

Recession Proof Fashion + Shopping

Recession is here and not going anywhere any time soon. Many bloggers and fashionistas appreciate great vintage finds and can appreciate the great deals as well.

Growing up, we always searched the local Salvation Army, Red White and Blue, and thrift stores for great finds in books, jewelry, and clothing. So I am not unfamiliar with the feeling associated with finding that one of a kind item and being able to walk out of there with it.

I recently shopped at a brand NEW Goodwill store, which seems to be popping up all over lately. The store was completely organized without the digging and bumping into other people. They also had sale specials! (Amazing for thrifting!)

In addition, I read a great recession article on alternate ways to score great items....Swapping Fashion! The article links you to a site to find swap meetings in your area and options to donate unused items so it keeps the flow of thrifty and affordable shopping. I still fail to post personal photos and I'm too lazy to post my DIY items. Eventually I will commit to it. However, let me mention that for under $30 I purchased a vintage sweater vest in awesome condition, an ivory blouse perfect over leggings worn with booties, a mint green vest to add color to my wardrobe which my shopping friend picked out for me, and a Ralph Lauren military white denim jacket in awesome condition (I don't think anyone ever wore it!) Thanks again to Yvone who scoped it out while shopping. And on another adventure to the Salvation Army, I scored a Saks Fifth Avenue over the shoulder leather purse with small studding details [$4.95] (circa 1980s) and a white leather clutch ($0.95).

So even though we are in a recession, there is no need to slack on your fashion. Who knows, if the recession ends, you may still find that thrifty is always an option to help add to your wardrobe and it becomes a quick addiction!

Balmain Fall 2009

I know some folks were disappointed with the Balmain Fall 2009 show. Many said it was repetitive and too safe. However, I think many of us are still on our Balmain fix and can't get enough of it.

Yes, the shoulders on many of their dresses and jackets are fierce, but has anyone noticed these print tees? They are amazing! Staying true to the black, white, and silver theme, these shirts are most versatile and can come into my wardrobe any day!!!

Michael Kors' runway looks were right up my ally. I love wearing black and these are looks that are for the everyday professional. I love the cut-off trench in the first pic paired with the skinny fitted slacks and platform patent pumps! I recently bought two pairs of platform pumps, but i can't find ones similar to those above with a more pointed toe.

I recently bought waterproof eyeliner and I am in love. Yes, I have tons of eyeliners including liquid and retractable ones in all price ranges, but none like this one. If you are like me and like to put eyeliner on your lower lash line, inner eye, etc. and hate to keep redoing it, then this product is the way to go.

If your eyes tear or what have you, this eyeliner is sure to stay put! Especially when you put eyeliner on and 5 mins. later its gone! I bought it for a reasonably priced $16 at Sephora. It glides on smooth and the color is rich. Make Up For Ever has been around for quite some time, but this is my first encounter with their products. I highly recommend their eyeliner and they also sell waterproof eyeshadows.

DIY Shredding Technique

Ok...so I have started my DIY Shredding T-Shirt project and so far so good. I must apologize for the quality of the photos since I took it with my blackberry in poor lighting. Anyway, if you perform this, you can start with a tee that is cotton and mixed blend. For example, this shirt is cotton and has some stretch to it. I know you can perform on solid cotton as well.

So, you cut the hem off first, then you can take a pencil or seam cutter and start pulling away at the sections between the loop fibers. This will start to unravel and then you unravel to your preferred width. I also cut the hem along the sleeves and neckline to start some minimal shredding there as well. The process is sort of long and addicting. Hopefully, (if all goes well) I will post some more photos. If you have any shredded tees, share your photos! I would love to see or hear about them.

What a great way to start off the NY Fashion Week! Famous designers were asked to redesign the infamous ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz as if Dorothy were in the 21st Century. Well, all I can say is that Dorothy would not want to get out of any of these shoes. I am really loving the L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani design, the Botkier design, and the Betsey Johnson Design. These fashionable shoes are also a part of an auction where the proceeds will benefit children with AIDS, specifically the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The shoes are being showcases at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC as well. Which pair of ruby slippers would you love to have if you could choose?

Here is an outfit almost identical to what I am wearing today. Its a casual three-quarter sleeve pale yellow top paired with a dark rinsed skinny jean. To add some flair to this outfit, I have a pair of leopard flats that are ultra-chic and comfortable. The accessories are simple but polish the outfit off just right. And for my makeup, I always do a neutral to slight pink lip color and a shimmery eye in a copper toned shadow. Also, I cannot live without my Sephora Cheek stain. Its lasts all day ... and gives a natural glow.

Anyway, The first pair is Candice by Bakers Shoes. I actually own and adore these shoes. Not only do they increase my height and create the illusion of longer legs, they add an edge to my outfits not found before! Ok...now the second pair is Sadie boots by Bakers Shoes as well. I have been dying since last year to find the perfect pair of tan boots. However, I am not sure these are the ones for me. The last pair, Adelaide by Bakers Shoes, is a last minute summer sandal I have been looking for to dress up a pair of skinny jeans. Unfortunately, we probably only have a few good summer weather days left, but I am contemplating on getting these for those few days and for next year's summer wear...

I absolutely love Audrey Hepburn as an actress, a fashion icon, and the way she dedicated her time to others. She has definitely served as a vision of inspiration to both fashion and humanitarianism. If a person is able to leave positive marks on individuals in many ways, that person has accomplished a life worth noting. Whether you see her as an actress, a fashionista, or the great humanitarian, there are qualities worth adopting. Her aspects that she has contributed to society has surpassed throughout the years. You can choose the fedora hat or just the scarf with the earrings.For a bolder look, you can then go with the purple shoes and purse to bring out the subtle purple highlights in the skirt or maintain the green scheme and pick from those options.All summer we saw scarves, fedoras, and dainty jewelry....What's your favorite summer accessory?

I love, love, love black and white outfits! Whether your outfit is casual, dressy, couture, etc. I think you can't beat black and white. My closet is filled with black and white tops, black dress shirts, casual tees, and black cocktail dresses. Something about black and white combo that I am drawn to. Did I mentioned that there is nothing better than a pair of patent leather heels or purse?! P.S. I do have other colors in my wardrobe as well!

I love this outfit because its so basic and classic. It will definitely take you through the summer to fall seasons. The shoes also help bring the outfit to a different level.

I just found my perfect neutral belt, similar to the one above, that I throw on top of many shirts and blouses to finish off the look. A neutral belt and accessories will help tie your look together. Especially if you do not like a lot of accessories, or need a look for an "on-the-go" lifestyle, it will ensure Simplicity...

Summer Breeze...Miami

This set is my inspiration for my August trip to Miami and South Beach Florida. I want some earthy colors, but I'm looking for some color as well.
I finally snagged my new sandals, which I will try to post a picture of. I ordered them from GoJane.com. They are brown patent leather gladiator sandals. They are perfect! They are casual and comfortable, but can dress up a pair of shorts, summer dress, or a pair of jeans as well.

I started this fashion blog because I have been googling other great fashion blogs out of interest, insight, and fashion inspiration. I love fashion, but I want to develop a more precise and personal fashion statement for myself.

Being petite creates a problem when searching for a perfect fit. Sometimes shirts, dresses, pants (especially) are too long and create a huge gap in the fitting. This is frustrating and leaves me with minimal options most of the time. Therefore, I am forced to get alterations and pass on great pieces that are left for those who don't face such dilemmas!

Either way, I envy the pages of Vogue, runways, and other fashionistas, in the hopes that I can fine tune my own style. So, I welcome you to help me climb my own fashion ladder....Start....
